Just been reading the article by Whack My Bush in this months Podcast User Magazine. Two things, firstly The Richard Vobes Radio Show has been subscriber (pay to listen) for 13 months now and I agree that people expect thing to be free and in life all that is gold isn't and sometimes a small charge is necessary to get the good stuff. I actually predict that the good podcasters will start to charge. It means there is equal competition. People will pay for quality and the slip shod podcast will have to pull their socks up.
Secondly, did Whack My Bush really build up 10,000 to 12,000 listeners before they paid and now have a lot less than 4000? I do question the download statistics of podcasters and believe a lot are over inflated. I do a daily show, yes, a daily fun packed 30 minute podcast, thats 7 days a week, not 5, and clocked up 559 shows todate, and I know just small audiences really are.
Good luck to the Whack My Bush Team and stick to your guns and charge for your show. If people really want quality entertainment they are either going to have to have repackaged repeats of already produced content (like from the BBC) or they will have to PAY so the artistes can afford to make the stuff and pay their wages. I am appalled by the crazy mentality of a lot of the listeners out there who moan about paying for the good podcasts.
Great work Podcast User Magazine - thanks!

Another fine job, team! Who's the woman on the front cover, anyone we know?

Why does it take so long to get the comments up on this site?
By Anonymous, at 8:28 AM
The delay in the comments is because they have to be approved. Unfortunatly there are people about who just like to fill up comment sections with unrelated junk. we however will not 'hide' comments that are critical, we need feedback to improve.
Thank you for your patience.

Hey there, this is Martin Kingsley, available at http://www.flickr.com/photos/coyotejack. I was contacted by Janet Parkinson about using a photo of mine, "Skippy", in her article on Australian Podcasts. I see that the article is up, I was just wondering if the kangaroo crossing sign photo in there actually is my photo, cropped as it appears to be and recoloured. Just curious.

Hi Martin
Thanks for the comment on the PUM forum board. I'm writing this to you directly and I will also be posting it on the forum as well.
The picture we used in the article of the road sign isn't your one. The Lostoutback Podcast had a similar image on their web site so we decided it would be better to use a different one for the main picture instead. We had space constraints this month anyway (it was a much bigger issue than usual) and something had to give. Sorry we couldn't use yours in the end – it is a great picture – and we'd like to, if we can, use some of yours in a later issue.
As you know we are all volunteers here, we do it for the love of podcasting and not the money! We hope people enjoy what we do and we feel heartened and happy that so many people want to help us - whether it's writing articles, sending in letters and emails, contributing news or, as in your case, giving us permission to use photographs. Thanks.
Best regards,
Paul Parkinson, Editor,

Please create clickable links. You mention so many great resources. I have to cut and past them. The ones that occupy two lines are really a pain. The magazine is only available online and its killing me not to be able to click through.
Great job (again) on the magazine.

All the links in PUM that are printed in blue are active clickable links, it has however come to light that Foxit reader is not capable of allowing these to function, a great pity.
The good news, Acrobat Reader by Adobe works perfectly.

Addition: Thanks to Michael's help we have found that version 7 of Adobe Reader onwards works best.

I saw your mention of the podcast peer awards. He is a suggestion to improve them. Limit the voting to people (like me) who subscribe to over 100 podcasts who would have a good basis for comparison. :-)
